Sunday—Finding Home

Series: Finding Home

Sermon: Finding Home

Speaker and Writer: Amy Markoch

Refresh: Open with prayer. Ask for the Holy Spirit to open your heart to new understanding and for God’s character to be revealed.

Read: Psalm 90:1-2; Psalm 91 (ESV). Note 1–3 insights or questions.

Reflect: The feeling of fear burned in my stomach as realization set in: I am completely lost. Michigan was my last stop after recruiting for a Bible college all summer. I had gone through four states and numerous youth programs without the aid of GPS or Google Maps. It was my first time in the city of Detroit and I had enough friends who had been there to tell me that I should be careful where I exited the freeway. Nearly two hours had passed as I drove in circles, nervous about stopping in the wrong place to ask for directions. Desperation swept over me. No one was answering their phones back home and my rental car was running low on gas. All I could think about was the safety of my hotel room. I just wanted sleep. I just wanted to be home.

Most of us have been there at some point or another. Whether getting lost in a new city, out in the woods, or at the county fair, we try to find something familiar to get us back home. All we want is to be in a safe place. We just want to be home. Home is where we feel most comfortable and we often make it our place of refuge. Unfortunately, home doesn’t always meet those expectations.

Psalm 90:1–2 and 91 describe the best place to live. No matter how lost you have felt or feel, this place will always meet your needs. This place is in Jesus.

Recalibrate: Where do you feel most at home?

Respond: Pray to find your home in Jesus.
